HTC’s Desire lineup of smart phones has added a new member to the family—the HTC Desire 616. HTC has carved a niche for itself by producing some very powerful and stylish smartphones in India. This latest smart phone by HTC is a dual SIM device that runs on Android 4.4.2 with HTC Sense 5.5 and Blink feed. It is powered by a strong 1.4 GHz octa-core MediaTek processor with 1GB RAM. In fact, this is the first ever Octa-Core smartphone from HTC. The Desire 616 first hit the Chinese market, followed by other parts of South Asia, North Asia as well as Russia. The phone will release in India very soon, probably in the third quarter of 2014.
The phone has a vivid 5 inch LCD display with 720 p HD resolution. It features an 8MP primary camera and 2MP secondary camera. Its 4 GB internal memory is expandable up to 32 GB by means of a microSD card.
The Singapore pricing of the HTC Desire 616 is S$ 298, which comes to US$238. The pricing point is definitely going to make the Desire 616 a winner as US$238 is a decent cost for a mid range phone.
It is good to see HTC paying more attention to its mid range smartphone segment, along with aggressively expanding its premium segment. The Desire 616 was announced shortly after HTC released a plastic version of the HTC One E8, their flagship phone.

While HTC is yet to confirm the full specifications of the 2MP secondary camera, the primary camera is definitely powerful with an 8MP autofocus featuring an LED flash and digital zoom. There is much more that is expected to be added in the primary camera such as geo tagging, HDR, HD video, touch focus and face detection—and the next few days will most likely see the arrival of all these additional camera features. The handset has 4 GB in internal memory which can be expanded up to 32 GB with an SD card. The HTC Desire 616 is loaded with an array of connectivity and networking options such as 3G, Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, micro-USB 2.0 port, GPRS with EDGE and GPS/AGPS.
